Issue Position: Advocate for All of Washington

Issue Position

As your Lt. Governor, I would carefully listen to all sides of economic development issues trying my best to help opposing groups find agreement. My practical experience in resolving complex economic/environmental "conflicts" leads me to believe that both sides of an issue can almost always agree on essential issues--issues such as:

Promoting recreational opportunities that stimulate Washington State tourism, film and trade.

Advocating public policies that increase our state's international competitiveness for manufacturers, retailers, service providers, farmers & ranchers, and research organizations.

Facilitating how Washington State businesses and universities can help China and other developing nations seek solutions to improve air and water quality. I am convinced that there is a growing market for our technical expertise. We need to empower Washington State businesses to lead in solving these complex problems.

Developing a practical method of coordinating technical research on climate change within Washington State. Public policy should be systemically driven by scientific research -- not fear of the unknown. A clearing house of scientific researchers and Washington based analysts would be useful.

Assessing the feasibility of developing an "Evergreen Maritime College" dedicated to developing the skills necessary to promote international trade. This will create a growing community of well-trained residents to help meet the ever increasing demand for high-paying jobs in the global maritime economy.
